Farm to Fork

Let us look towards a future where agriculture is seen as a viable economic opportunity rather than a burden passed on from father to son.

The Farm to Fork Strategy is a central component of the European Green Deal, focusing on creating fair, healthy, and environmentally friendly food systems.

Current food systems, which are responsible for almost one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions and significant natural resource consumption, are unsustainable and contribute to biodiversity loss, health issues from malnutrition, and economic inequality, particularly for primary producers. These systems cannot withstand crises like the COVID-19 pandemic unless they become sustainable.

Transitioning to sustainable food systems offers new opportunities for the food value chain. Advances in technology and science, along with growing public demand for sustainable food, will benefit all involved parties.

The Farm to Fork Strategy aims to expedite the shift to sustainable food systems by:

• Achieving a neutral or positive environmental impact
• Mitigating and adapting to climate change
• Reversing biodiversity loss
• Ensuring food security, nutrition, and public health, with access to sufficient, safe, nutritious, and sustainable food for all
• Maintaining food affordability while ensuring fair economic returns, enhancing the competitiveness of the EU supply sector, and promoting fair trade
