To support this mission, she has assembled a team from the ground up over the past two years within the Ambassador’s office and the newly established Directorate for Food Systems. As of today, we are a team of 5, with plans in full swing to expand further to meet the challenges ahead. Our Action Plan for Organic Food is just one component of our long-term vision to green food systems. Next, we will be launching a of a comprehensive National Food Strategy, aimed to build resilience and sustainability in our food systems. This strategy will be another first for the Maltese Islands, and will address all aspects of local food production, food security, and culture, and will tie in with the goals outlined in the Action Plan for Organic Food.
I, together with my team, our colleagues both within the Ministry for Agriculture and Food, and the wider Government, as well as the growing number of stakeholders, am confident that we can build towards a future where agriculture is seen as a viable economic opportunity rather than a burden passed on, often reluctantly, from fathers to sons. In all this, I am proud to be instrumental in designing the tools and the solutions to shape a better future, one in which our food comes from systems that are green, fair, and healthy.
