Although Lucas’ farm is truly a one-man show, Lucas comes from a family of farmers who work the adjacent lands conventionally. Nevertheless, with substantial buffers in place and using his own machinery, Lucas manages to harvest a significant yield of organic produce that he serves to people living in the vicinity looking for the healthiest fruits and vegetables, as well as to organic retailers such as the Veg Box.

The farm is a small, 3.5 tumoli farm consisting of terraced fields with rich, red soil. It hosts several fruit trees, such as lemon trees, olive trees, nectarines, a banana tree as well as a dragon fruit plant that produces some of the sweetest dragon fruits on the island. Lucas is a hard-working farmer who manages to man the fields on his own being dedicated to ensuring that the fields remain fertile year after year and clean from pollutants.

Having helped his family from a young age at the farm, as a child, he used to suffer from asthma which he attributes to toxic pesticides. Ever since he converted to organic, he claims that his respiratory problems have reduced. It is clear from his excitement that he loves his job and that building an ecosystem rich in biodiversity is a farmer’s true occupation, work which is evident in the fruits of his labour and passion.
